I have noticed that very often those suffering from depression, fear, insecurities, anxieties, lethargy, have one thing in common. The fire element operating within them is low. Or is it because that the fire element is ebbing in an individual does depression, fear, insecurities, anxieties come forth.
It is said that each human being is made up of five elements. Earth, water, air, fire, space. When the element of fire goes down, depression, fears, lack of confidence in oneself and lethargy sets in. We begin to doubt our own worth, abilities and capabilities.
It feels as though one is in a dark, foggy tunnel, with no light at the end of the tunnel, that is if you can see till the end of the tunnel.
Most ancient religions either worship the Sun or the fire. Zoroastrians have to say a rather lengthy prayer to the Angel presiding over The Sun, Khorshed Yazata and Meher Yazata, the Angel presiding over Nature or Earth, which means that it covers the five elements, thrice a day, before sunset, every few hours of the day. They are mandatory prayers which I can confidently say, very few of us recite.
The Aditya Hridayam, is a prayer in praise of the Sun and was revealed by Agastya Rishi to Lord Rama to defeat Ravana. It is said that Lord Rama was tired and in emotional anguish while fighting the war with Ravana. Agastya Rishi realising the Lord’s fatigue in the human form, revealed the Aditya Hridayam in praise of the Sun God, who is also called the Lord of all victories. It is said that after Lord Ram chanted the Aditya Hridayam thrice and went to war, He won the war. I would like to believe He won the internal war raging within Him thus making Him centered to win the external war with Ravana.
Both these ancient religions worship the Fire too, in a very deep reverential manner. Fire never gets polluted. No matter what goes within the Fire, Agni always remains pure. Thus Agni, Atash or the Fire is revered as the closest resemblance to The One. Zoroastrian prayers call Atash, The Fire, The Son of God. Why would these two ancient ways of life, put so much of emphasis on the worship of the Sun and Fire? I would like to believe that it is because when one connects to the external fire automatically the internal fire within each one of us gets strengthened and once that takes place we can go about life in the most active, alert and joyous manner. There is something cold and eerie about darkness. There is something comforting about the fire. No matter how dense the dark night may be, a small candle, a little diya, can dispel the darkness and bring forth hope and comfort around.
I have noticed that those individuals who begin to consciously allow the sun beams and rays to enter their body, aura and their consciousness, begin to free themselves at a faster pace from the dark claws of depressions and fears. One needs to connect with the Sun. The sight of the morning sun, breaking through the dark night, the initial silver, then the change of colour and then the majestic Sun. It is known now that the morning Sun has properties that are beneficial to the health but if only one would know the immense nurturing the Sun has for the soul and spirit, we would spend a little time paying our obeisance to the Sun. It is said that till noon everyday, till the Sun is above one’s head, before it starts its journey to the South, is the most beneficial. Water offered to the Sun, with the rays of the Sun passing through the water onto the seeker, creates magic. The seven rays of the Sun has its own magic, no matter which hour of the day.
Whatever the prayer, one needs to chant with complete consciousness and heart, or just communicate with the Sun to let the Its energy enter within, removing all darkness and fears. Pray that the Sun envelopes and fill one up with Its Radiance. Rishis, Yogis, Sufi’s, Saints, Prophets, have all connected with the Sun. There must be some real purpose and logic to this practice. It is the constant factor in our Cosmos.
Everything revolves around the Sun. Baba says darkness and night comes about not because the Sun has moved away but because we have shown our back towards the Sun. So, in our life darkness enters when we move away from the Light. So, Baba says ‘now you start moving towards the Radiance’. For beginners let the Sun enter your being. Of course, it is best to try and take in the morning Sun, for optical and other obvious reasons too.
That is why we light lamps or diyas or candles. Let the external Light, awaken and strengthen the flagging Light within us. Every time your sight goes to the burning object, consciously or sub consciously one is connecting to the fire element.
I would like to believe that we all have one particular lesson to be learnt, one weakness to overcome, one flaw to be done with, in each life time. If we succeed we move up the ladder. If we don’t, we come back with the same agenda but a little tougher this time and it gets only tougher with each life time. We are always tested on our weaknesses, never our strengths. That one flaw is not truly a flaw but an experience that we have to go beyond. For those people whose fire element is low, the learning experience is to go beyond fears, defeat, deceit, playing the victim, procrastination and lethargy.
Of course, depression, fears, anxiety have medical reasons and medical terminology and there is for sure a science that explains everything, but very often, planetary positions, experiences, hardships, constant defeats and heartbreak, lead us on the pathway of gloom and despair. For those treading that path I have seen that reconnecting with the Fire Element through the Sun, lamps, candles, nourishes the aura and vibrations of the individual which in turn strengthens the body which in turn energizes the mind and then the spirit within is rejuvenated and recovery takes place.
Prana, the Life Force that sustains our auric and physical body, is throbbing in the cosmos, gushing on the wings of each sun beam. It is out there. All one needs to do is to open one’s consciousness, mind, heart and arms to welcome and be embraced by the forever constant Sun.
Be blessed always.
